What Is Network Latency?

In data communication, virtual networking, and packet-switched networks, latency is quantified regarding one-way and round trips. When measuring one-way latency, the total amount of time that elapses between the sending of a packet and its arrival at its destination is considered. The round-trip latency is measured by methods, including the time it takes for the packet to arrive back in the supply. In contrast to one-way latency, round-trip latency typically does not consider the processing time required at the destination point. It is essential to have an understanding that to calculate the latency for either a one-way or a round-trip connection, you will need to think about the amount of time it takes your packet to go from point A to point B, as well as what occurs when it reaches point B and when it returns.
