What Is Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)?
Trivial File Transfer Protocol is the whole meaning of the abbreviation TFTP. This protocol is like the wild little brother of the robust File Transfer Protocol (FTP), but don't let its diminutive stature fool you; it can still get the job done! If you could say, we would love to describe TFTP to us. It's a protocol for exchanging data and information between machines. It's like playing catch, except you'll toss files at each other instead of a ball. You can compete against a group of computers instead of a human. TFTP is simpler to operate and requires significantly less hardware and memory than its near-relative FTP. It lacks FTP's functionality, which is both a pro and a con. This facilitates easier installation and operation and improves performance, especially when working with smaller files. Also, it functions better for sending large files over slow connections like dial-up. To initiate a TFTP file transfer, a requesting computer must first transmit a request to the receiving computer. Parts of the file are then passed from one computer to the other in a dance of back-and-forth exchanges until the complete file has been transferred. This process is often called a "UDP transmission," an abbreviation for the User Datagram Protocol. The two computers use what amounts to a coded language to ensure the file is delivered correctly. That's only part of the whole list! The "options" feature, enabled by TFTP, lets the computers modify the transfer to their liking. For instance, the computer delivering the file could specify preferences for transferring it, such as the block size or the sequence in which the data is sent. Each machine can send requests to the other, and the latter can either accept or reject them so that both use the same playbook.
