What Is Headend?
Much stuff goes into making your favorite shows and movies available, but one of the essential parts is the headend. It's like a master distribution center—where all the content comes together, gets processed, and is distributed to homes and cable networks. It's like a relay race: TV signals are received at one end, processed into cable-quality signals, and sent to other network parts. The headend can be considered the central hub for incoming television signals, where they are selected, amplified and re-modulated before being sent to cable networks. A headend is a place where it all happens. It's where the magic happens. It's where the signals are received, decoded, and sent to you as clear as day (or night). It's also where your cable modem termination system takes those digital signals and transforms them into something you can use—like Internet access! The headend comprises many parts: integrated receiver/decoders, off-air receivers, encoders, transcoders, rate shapers, channel modulators, channel processors and channel signal units. They all work together to ensure that when you turn on your TV or open your laptop in the morning, you'll have all the content you love waiting for you—and only pay for what you want. Using a headend is like having a party in your living room, but it's actually in your room. It's like having a friend who always knows where the best parties are and how to get you in. You don't have to judge anything other than going when you say, 'Let's go.' You don't have to think about anything other than enjoying yourself when you go out on a date with someone who makes sure you have a great time and don't even notice when they slip their hand into your pocket. It's like having someone care for everything so nothing is forgotten, such as bringing snacks and drinks without being asked.
