What Is User Agent Client (UAC)?
A User Agent Client (UAC) is a software application that uses the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to initiate and manage real-time communication sessions over the Internet. It sends requests to a User Agent Server (UAS), another software application that receives and responds to these requests. When a UAC sends a request to a UAS, it includes an ID string that identifies the UAC and provides information about its application type, operating system, and client/server revisions. This information helps the UAS to understand the capabilities and requirements of the UAC, which allows it to provide the appropriate response. In the context of a web browser, the user agent string is a piece of text that contains information about the browser and the device it is running on. It typically includes the name and version of the browser, the operating system it is running on, and any installed extensions or plugins. The browser sends the user agent string to the web server whenever it requests a webpage or other resource. The web server uses this information to optimize the content it delivers to the browser based on the capabilities and limitations of the browser and device. For example, a website might use the user agent string to determine whether the browser supports a certain feature or technology and adjust the content accordingly. This helps ensure that the website looks and functions correctly on a wide range of devices and browsers. In summary, a User Agent Client (UAC) is a software application that initiates and manages real-time online communication sessions using SIP or VoIP. The user agent string is a piece of text that contains information about the browser and device, which is sent to web servers to help optimize content delivery based on browser capabilities and limitations.
