What Is Multimedia Home Platform (DVB-MHP or MHP)?
Multimedia Home Platform (Short for DVB-MHP or MHP) is a new standard that allows you to access digital media on your TV. It's like your personal video player but for your TV! MHP is a digital TV standard that provides interactive services to viewers through various platforms. It's like an open-source, standardized version of something like Netflix or Hulu. How does it work? Well, the idea is that you can watch your favorite shows on any device (phone, tablet, laptop) and interact with them in real-time—the way you might interact with a website. For instance, if you wanted to find out more about an actor or character on your TV show, you could tap on their name and get access to all kinds of info about them, or maybe there's some trivia game related to what's happening in the scene you want to play? That's possible too. Is this project still active? The project was started back in 2007 by the DVB Project (which stands for Digital Video Broadcasting). Still, it never really took off as a standard for interactive digital television until recently, when companies like Netflix began creating their proprietary versions of MHP apps for different platforms and devices—and then people started calling those MH. We know that life can be challenging. It's full of hard decisions, like which TV show you want to watch or if you should order pizza for dinner. What if it were possible to make those decisions easier? With our new DVB-MHP platform, you could do all that and more! DVB-MHP is a multimedia home platform that ITV requests and audio/video streams over a broadcast channel. Applications include information services, games, email, Short messages, and shopping. Fully implemented DVB-MHP systems allow users to browse the web, watch TV, play games and shop online—all while sitting on the couch in their underwear watching The Bachelor.
