What Is Network Port?
Regarding networks, a port might be compared to an entrance or exit. A network port enables data to enter and leave your network like a building doorway allows people to enter and leave the building. A network port is a "hole" in your computer network that facilitates communication between individual devices. It's like giving the network a coded knock, so it knows which device is trying to connect to it. A port number is a number specific to each port; this number assists the network in directing the data to the appropriate location. However, just like not everyone enters a building by the main entrance, not all data goes in and out of the building through the commonly known ports.
