What Is Bare Metal?
This is not like putting on clothes or dressing them up per se, any metal object that stands there. No, there is much more to know and learn, my friend. So let us kick back, relax and begin. Have you ever tried to use a computer that only had bare metal? It's challenging and more like impossible to work with, and additionally, it's not for the faint of heart. When you're working on a computer, it's easy to get lost in the software and needs to remember about the hardware underneath. What if you could take all of that away? What if you could see the bare metal? That's precisely what happens when you work with a computer without software, other operating systems, or installed applications. It's just the hardware assembly, structure and components—the firmware or basic input/output system (BIOS) software utility installed or no software. That's why it might be time for you to try working on a bare-metal computer! Bare metal is used in enterprise computing environments to distinguish standard and barebone computers. A computer shipped from a manufacturer is typically in a raw metal state. Though installed software is not included, the computer contains essential hardware components, such as processors, motherboards, hard disks and network cards. A user accesses the mounted firmware/BIOS to operate the computer and install a preferred operating system (OS). If the firmware or BIOS utility is unavailable, they are installed with external storage sources, such as serial, parallel, Universal Serial Bus (USB) and optical storage devices. A bare metal solution differs from a completely-installed solution because it does not contain any pre-installed software or tools needed for an end user to begin using it immediately. To start with your new machine, you must download all your applications and drivers before using it on any profound level.
