What Is Undelete?

What Do you do if you delete a file accidentally? Run out and buy a new one? No, use Undelete. This small and easy-to-use program enables you to quickly find deleted files and recover them without fuss. It means money spent on more important things like pints at the pub and other luxuries! Temporary data is deleted or erased from the computer’s memory when power is shut off or when the computer is reset. If you want to keep data in the temporary storage location but prevent it from being deleted, you can move it to another location. When you move the data, make sure you put it where it will not be accidentally erased or deleted. The physical location is marked as “not in use”, but the file system does not erase the magnetic media. In the instance of a major power outage, magnetic media may retain data for a short period. Now, suppose we need to undelete the file that you deleted. In that case, the file system can quickly locate the data on the magnetic media, copy it to the desired location, and update the directory entry. After the file allocation table is rebuilt, the data is still on the disk, but it is unreferenced, making disk space less efficient. The information is still there, but it’s not being used. You can do a quick couple of things to reclaim this disk space. The first is to defragment the disk, which will move the data closer together so it can be overwritten. Another way is to overwrite this data with new data. Depending on your use case, the speed of your computer, and what you are trying to accomplish, you might never be able to overwrite that data again.
