What Is Subscription Video on Demand (SVoD)?
Have you ever had one of those days where you want to curl up on the couch and watch an entire season of your favorite show? Or you want to watch the newest Game of Thrones episode, the next one, and the next one. Well, don't worry! Now, there's a Subscription Video on Demand (SVoD) service! It's like pay-TV programming, except it's not. You can watch any movie or show demand on-demand through your TV set. If you don't like what's available, no problem: with SVOD, content is updated constantly! SVoD, or subscription video on demand, is Netflix with all the good shows and no commercials. Do you know how Netflix is continually adding new stuff? SVoD is like that, except you can pause, fast forward, rewind and stop the show as preferred. You also have complete control over the subscription, deciding when to start the program. Since it's pay-TV programming, you'll get all the top-quality content you could want, TV series and blockbusters movies, but with no programming schedule. So if you're in the mood for a movie tonight but feel like doing little work, turn on your TV and watch whatever you want! The SVoD service providers are considerably better than cable or broadcast networks in several ways. They can say and show whatever they want because FCC broadcast regulations do not limit them. They are also unlikely to be engaged in any cable carriage disputes. Content creators, who can now reach a much wider audience because of the internet, are no longer beholden to a small number of distribution channels. They can create content for SVoD services and distribute it on their terms instead of relying on old-school distribution methods like cable TV and broadcast networks. The result is that we get more choices and better viewing experiences than ever!
