What Is Remote Office/Branch Office (ROBO)?
Remote offices are the new black. If you want to expand your business, consider opening a remote office. What is a remote office exactly? Why would you want one? A remote branch office (ROBO) is located in a different or remote geographical area. An organization may have central and remote offices in another city, country or continent. Remote offices can be beneficial to both the business and its employees. Companies can use ROBOs to reduce costs by outsourcing specific tasks to locations with lower labor costs than at their primary site and save on transportation costs and travel time for employees who would otherwise have to travel back and forth between offices regularly. For example, suppose an organization has two offices in two different countries but needs to frequently transfer data between them. In that case, it can easily do so by opening up a ROBO in each country, allowing faster data transfer than done over long distances via physical transport methods such as airplane flights or mail delivery services. The ROBO environment is a unique and challenging one. The lack of experienced IT personnel means that many ROBOs need more resources to manage their data recovery and backup capabilities effectively. Additionally, IT organizations do not perform comprehensive testing frequently - especially at ROBO locations. It makes backup and recovery problematic for ROBOs and must be carefully addressed. The ROBO (Remote Office/Branch Office) is the bane of every IT department's existence. It's far away; it's small. Does it only have the budget for the basics and, worst of all? It's full of people trying to figure out how to do their jobs without you. Don't worry! You can still ensure they're doing things right—check out our new ROBO-centric security policy and ensure they follow it!
