What Is Quantum Computer?

"Quantum computers are like a game of "guess what's next" that you can play with your cat. It's like the thing that keeps purring along come rain or shine, even if you stoke it to sleep. If you're a quantum computer, you know the answer to a problem but keep changing it depending on the other person's guess. If they guess something close to the correct answer, you show them something close to their guess; if they think something really far off, you show them something further away. It's like playing with your cat, which is so cool for the most bits, but on days can be every bit as quick a cat as it wants! You know that he wants treats and will try to get them from you—but to figure out where the treats are, he has to keep guessing until he finds them. Quantum computing is different from traditional computing in a few key ways. One of the essential characteristics of quantum computing relates to the units used for data manipulation. In a conventional computer, these units are bits and binary values. In quantum computing and quantum computer models, the basic units are qubits, which can have zero or one value or one of several additional values. The problem of representing these qubits in a data storage space is one of the essential barriers to practical quantum computer design. Another characteristic of quantum computers relates to command structures. When discussing traditional computers, we usually think of a machine following a linear command set. In other words, for a given state, there is only one command that the computer can execute. This type of computing is referred to as deterministic, and it is the basis for most of the computers we use today. However, a different kind of computer is gaining popularity: the quantum computer. Unlike traditional computers, quantum computers are designed to be non-deterministic, meaning they can provide multiple possible command responses for a given state. This is a fundamental aspect of quantum computer design, and it has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach computing. With quantum computers, we can explore new algorithms and solve problems that would be impossible to tackle with traditional computing methods. So, while the concept of non-determinism may seem counterintuitive at first, it is a powerful tool that we can use.
