What Is Print Queue?
Do you know what a printer is? It's a little box that makes your life easier. Do you know what a print queue is? An extensive list of printer output jobs is held in a reserved memory area. It maintains the most current status of all active and pending print jobs. A print queue lists printer output jobs held in a dedicated memory area. It supports the most recent level of all involved and awaiting print jobs. If a user sends a document to the printer, it will go into the queue, waiting until it can be printed. When you send a copy to the printer, it goes into your computer's memory. It doesn't stay there forever! It gets sent to another part of your computer called the hard drive. The hard drive is like a big bank account. It holds all your documents, photos, videos and music files safely from harm (like dogs). When you want something from your bank account, you have to go into the bank and ask them for it; then, they'll give you what you're owed. Similarly, when you want to get something out of your hard drive (like an image or document), you have to tell your computer which file(s) you'd like printed first and then it will send those files over to another part of the machine called RAM (random access memory). RAM is just like a temporary holding spot for data until you Can turn it into something useful like an image or document. Once that happens, RAM clears itself out, so when you're waiting for your print job to finish printing, it's easy to get bored. There's nothing else to do but wait and stare at the printer, wondering if your life is worth living but, when you have a print queue, you can keep yourself entertained by prioritizing your print jobs, pausing and resuming them as needed, or even canceling them altogether! It's like having the power of God over the universe of paper. And if that doesn't sound like fun, we don't know what does.
