What Is Neo FreeRunner?
In the earth where smartphones are the norm, it's hard to imagine there was a time when they didn't exist. But believe it or not, there was a time when we had to write things down and carry around physical address books. Thankfully, we've come a long way since then! As technology advances, we have more possibilities for keeping in touch with friends and family. If you're looking for a new phone to make your life easier (and more fun), check out the Neo FreeRunner! This highly customizable smartphone device is developed through the Openmoko project -a community dedicated to the development of mobile devices with open source software. The Neo FreeRunner features an elliptical form factor with a 2.84-inch high-resolution touch screen. You'll also find an accelerometer, GPS receiver and Bluetooth connectivity on board! It comes with two batteries: one standard Li-Ion battery and one extended Li-Ion battery (the latter will last up to 12 hours). The Neo FreeRunner is the ultimate phone for tinkerers. The Neo FreeRunner's design and software, including the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) chip's bootloader and software, are easily updated. Updates are not usually required before devising the startup. The Neo FreeRunner ships with a default OS, but because it's open source, you can customize it any way you want! The Neo FreeRunner has been tested with several Linux-based operating systems (OS), including Openmoko Linux, Debian, Gentoo Linux and Android, and Inferno, a distributed OS. If you're not familiar with Linux, don't worry! You don't have to be. All you need to know is that the software makes the FreeRunner work. The engine keeps your phone running smoothly, no matter what application you're using or how many apps you've got open at once.
