What Is Near-Line Storage?
Online storage is excellent. It's fast, it's reliable, and it's convenient. What if you need to store more stuff than you have space for in your online storage? That's where near-line storage comes in! Near-line storage is an external medium that provides quick and scalable access to data within an IT environment. It's not as fast as online storage. Still, it's more reliable, unlike offline storage (which isn't a thing); near-line storage allows you to access data without waiting to be physically retrieved from another location. Near-line storage can be implemented using any architecture or infrastructure, but it usually refers to any technology that resides between online and offline data stores. Near-line storage is like the best of both worlds: it's fast, reliable, flexible and easy to use. It's an excellent option for enterprises that need to store data temporarily without putting it in the cloud. Near-line storage is also ideal for data warehouses since it allows access to information anytime through a network/internet connection. Plus, it's a cost-effective solution for companies that need access to much information quickly but wants to avoid paying for expensive hardware or software upgrades. Near-line storage is often used in enterprise-class data centers, data warehouses and IT environments because it provides on-demand access to stored data without requiring manual help from IT staff members. Near-line storage devices are like the ultimate Netflix and chill. You know when you're just hanging out with a friend, and they tell you they're going to get something from the kitchen? And then they leave, and you want to keep watching your show, but they're taking too long, and it's already past your bedtime? Near-line storage is like that: somewhere between the now and later. There's no need to worry about it, but it's still there if you ever need it.
