What Is Microsegmentation?
Microsegmentation is a fancy way of saying, "It's time to break up!"Microsegmentation is a great way to improve the efficiency and security of your network. When you microsegment, you divide your collision domain into smaller segments. You do this to make it easier for devices to communicate with each other. This process can also help you prevent certain types of attacks. Microsegmentation is a way of enhancing the security or efficiency of your network. It's like the difference between using a knife to cut and a pair of scissors to snip. A knife will get the job done, but it takes longer, and you can't get as precise. Scissors are more efficient. They're faster and allow you to cut smaller items in detail. That's what micro-segmentation does: it gives you more control over how your network reacts to attacks and other disruptions. You can set up particular rules for how traffic flows through different parts of your network, making it easier for you to respond when something goes wrong. Microsegmentation is a phenomenon in the direction of fewer users per segment. What does that mean? It means that each user gets their detail or private space. Imagine you're sitting on your couch watching Netflix, and your phone buzzes. You know that buzz; it's one of your friends or family members trying to get ahold of you! Instead of getting off the couch, walking over to the kitchen counter, picking up your phone, and answering the call, now all you have to do is hit a button on your remote control! You're talking to them with no effort whatsoever. That's micro-segmentation. Micro-segmentation has many advantages, but the best is simple: you get all the bandwidth. Do you know how it buffers when trying to watch a movie on Netflix? Or are you trying to download something, and your internet connection keeps dropping? It's because your internet usage is divided among other users using the same link at the same time as you. With microsegmentation, there's no need for that. You get all the bandwidth for yourself, and there's no chance of someone else getting in your way.
