What Is Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)?

It's not a tall building, but it's an infrastructure.ITIL is a set of best practices for IT service management (ITSM) that's been around for over 30 years. It's widely accepted as a framework for creating and maintaining an effective IT department, so that you might have heard of it before. It was first published in 1987 by the British government's Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) and has since been updated several times to make it more relevant to modern businesses. ITIL was initially developed to help government agencies better manage their IT operations, but many private companies now use its principles. The original version included five books: Operations; Planning; Implementation, Support, and Improvement. The latest edition consists of a sixth book called Continual Service Improvement that focuses on continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Six Sigma methodologies like Kaizen and Total Quality Management (TQM). ITIL is supported by a qualification scheme called ITIL Expert, which provides accreditation training organizations (ATOs) with an official license from Axelos Limited to teach ITIL courses globally via training providers who ATOs accredit. It means that when you take an ITIL course or exam through an accredited ATO, you'll be taught using the official curriculum provided by Axelos. It is widely used in the public and private sectors across the world. Some of the largest enterprises and governments rely on ITIL as their primary model for service delivery. In the early days of the Internet, there was no one-size-fits-all approach. People found solutions where they could, cobbling together bits and pieces to meet their organizational needs. In the late '90s, there was a growing need for standardization and best practices. ITIL is a framework for IT service management that aims to improve how IT services are delivered. ITIL v2 was introduced in 2000/2001 and consisted of eight books, each corresponding to a specific discipline. The books include information on managing various aspects of IT service management, such as change management, incident management, problem management and release management.
