What Is Greenwashing?
Suppose you are a person who is all about green this and ge=reen that you will love this one. Greenwashing is when you take a product that isn't doing anything good for the environment and make it look like it does. It's like when you go to a restaurant and order a salad, bringing out a garbage can lid with lettuce or when you buy a Prius, and it still uses gas or when you buy a Prius, and it still uses gas, they tell you it's good for the environment because of how its engine works or how about when someone tells you they use less water than the average person, but they're in California? Do you know what I mean? Greenwashing, a term that refers to falsely promoting a product as environmentally friendly, has become increasingly common in recent years. It is not just about blatant lies, and there are plenty of ways marketers can be misleading without lying outright. For example, they may claim that a product is recyclable but fail to mention that it requires special recycling facilities and is often contaminated with other materials. They could also make vague claims like "this product is made from recycled materials" without specifying what those materials are or how they are recycled or they could imply that an item was manufactured when produced overseas but shipped to America on a cargo container ship. Greenwashing doesn't just happen in advertising; it also occurs when companies claim that their products are environmentally friendly and aren't doing anything more than paying lip service to environmental concerns. For example, some companies have been known to put pictures of nature scenes on their packaging or include vague statements about sustainability without actually making any concrete changes, such as reducing waste output or using less energy to make themselves look better than they are
