What Is Graduated Security?

A strong defense is comparable to a fort. It is only possible to construct the walls by laying the foundation, and applying it requires establishing a stable base. The same is valid for protecting sensitive information; it is not sufficient to have just one layer of defense; instead, multiple layers are required, and each layer serves a unique purpose. If you want to keep your data safe, you have to ensure that it is protected from dangers inside and outside your organization. This necessitates the implementation of security precautions at each stage of the process. The term "graduated security" refers to a model or architecture in which information security is implemented in multiple layers based on the requirements, threats, and vulnerabilities of the system or environment. This model or architecture is also known as "graduated security." It makes it possible to secure a system in various protection modes, all of which function in accordance with the fundamental requirements of the underlying information technology system, environment, or infrastructure. In other words, you can control the level of security based on the importance of the data. As an illustration, you might have one group of employees working with credit card numbers and another working with social security numbers. The information associated with credit cards might not be as vital as social security numbers, but it might be just as private. In this scenario, you can implement security controls at the gateway or the firewall to ensure that the network is accessible only to employees possessing valid social security numbers. You can also apply other security controls to the email gateway or the firewall to restrict email access to sensitive data to only employees with access to credit card numbers. You can reduce the likelihood of unauthorized users accessing sensitive data on your network by implementing graduated security and restricting who can log into certain network parts.
