What Is Ghost Site?
A ghost site is a website that is no longer updated or maintained. It's like a ghost town—it's there, but it's not alive. Ghost sites can result from a company shutting down, or they can be an old site that was never really finished. Sometimes they're just abandoned by their owners and sometimes left up as an archive of information that's no longer accurate. Ghost sites aren't bad for SEO because Google still indexes them and ranks them in search results. But if you have one on your site, you should probably consider redirecting it to a new page with fresh content (if possible) so, users don't get confused when they arrive at your site and see something old and outdated instead of what they were expecting! Ghost sites are a ban on the Internet. They're like the awkward, silent kid in your class whom nobody talks to and knows what they're doing. Nobody wants to be around them. These sites are hard to detect because it can be challenging to determine precisely how frequently a site is maintained. For example, if you want to know if a reference site is updated frequently enough, you might check the "last updated" date on its home page but, this isn't always reliable. Some areas have their way of keeping track of when they were last updated that may not match up with how other websites keep track of this information. So, it can be challenging for users to tell whether or not a site is being maintained or updated regularly enough for their needs. Depending on the nature of the content, it may or may not matter. For example, if you're looking for an up-to-date list of all the latest film releases in theaters, it would be better to update that list frequently (or at least once per week). But if you're looking for timeless information about film history or film trivia—things that aren't time-sensitive—then it probably doesn't matter as much if those.
