What Is Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (CC)?

It should be no surprise that we greatly respect the Common Criteria for the Evaluation of Information Technology Security (CC). Nevertheless, we won't sugarcoat it: it may be challenging to wrap your head around. Because of this, we concluded that it was time to examine the qualities that make CC unique. To begin, CC is an international standard developed based on evaluations of computer security products and systems. It offers direction on the required functionality and assurance for security-related products and other items in a particular environment, and it does so by providing guidance. Evaluations are carried out for those who buy and use the products being evaluated and those who design and develop the technologies being considered. However, the most significant advantage of CC is its adaptability. It is compatible with various products and environments, from operating systems and routers to software libraries, so it is not limited to working with just one product or setting. And although there are many different ways in which you could use CC, they all have one thing in common: they assist you in maintaining the confidentiality of your information. Evaluation for CC is carried out on the evaluation target (TOE), which may or may not include standalone or integrated hardware, firmware, and software. This is only sometimes an all-inclusive piece of IT hardware. Still, it may consist of access control products, smart cards, biometric devices, and other hardware related to security. The TOE may be represented by a configuration management system list, a master copy, a bundled CD-ROM that includes a customer user manual, or an operational state achieved through an earlier software installation. To put it another way, a TOE is a list of everything that needs to be installed for your product to become operational. It's like having a plan drawn up for your growth.
