What Is Bayesian Filter?

TechDogs Avatar

We have all heard and also seen on tv the famous dog-whisperer. Now there is another one in town. Bayesian filters are like the cat-whisperer of email. They're not just there to keep you from getting spam emails. They can also help keep you safe from phishing emails or ones that look like they're from your bank (but aren't). They use Bayesian logic and analysis to determine if an email is a spam. It's like having a friend who knows all the tricks to spot junk mail, and that's great for your inbox because then you don't have to waste time looking at it! Bayesian filtering is designed to protect against email scams, phishing scams, and spam emails by learning what email messages are trustworthy and which are not. Most Bayesian filter software programs are installed on your computer. Once the software is installed and set up, it will monitor your email inbox and start collecting data about the emails you receive. As you receive new emails, the software will analyze them and assign each one a probability. It will then keep track of the messages you accept and give each a chance. As time goes on and the software keeps track of your email usage patterns, it will continue to learn and improve its ability to accurately predict whether an email message is trustworthy. The Bayesian filter is like a human brain but better. No, seriously. It's been used in everything from medicine to science and even engineering. Scientists have speculated that it could be how our brains classify stimuli and determine response behaviors. What's that mean for you? If you need to organize data (like pictures, music, or even words! ), the Bayesian filter can help you do it better than any other method and faster than a human brain can respond.
