What Is Bandwidth?
Do you know what an excellent way to describe bandwidth is? A bunch of kids on a seesaw You've got one kid who's light and quick and only a little for getting up to speed. But you also have a second kid who's heavy and slow and needs to get up to speed before they can start swinging. And then you have the third kid, who's super-heavy and has a ton of momentum behind them—they've been waiting around forever, but now they're finally going to get their chance! And that's what bandwidth is like, how fast something can move through a network. It depends on how much "weight" you have—but if you carry too much weight, you won't be able to move! And if you don't take enough weight, your swing will be too short. Regarding networking, what you don't know can hurt you. One common problem is mismatched modems on a network connection's sending and receiving ends. It's easy enough to see why this is a problem: if one modem has a faster data rate than the other, it will have communication delays. You might think this is a problem that only happens when two different people are trying to communicate over the internet, but it's more common than you think. Suppose you're using an older computer as your source and newer equipment on another end, for example. In that case, there could be some significant delays in communication because the older device isn't capable of handling as much information at once as newer models can do so without difficulty. This can cause problems with almost any kind of communication system, from telephones up through video conferencing software and beyond—so while it may seem like something only affects outdated systems like those found in older homes or offices around town, there's no reason at all why anyone shouldn't consider upgrading their equipment if they find themselves suffering from these kinds of slowdowns regularly!
